By Faith

Jacob (Israel) and all his household moved to Egypt and lived in the land of Goshen. Jacob lived there seventeen years before he died. The king Egypt proclaimed a thirty day period of mourning for Jacob throughout the land. Joseph’s brothers were still afraid he would do them harm after their father died but Joseph told them he recognized God’s hand was in all that had happened to him and he help them ill will. In Genesis 50:19-21 we read “But Joseph said to them, “Do not be afraid, for am I in God’s place? 20″As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good in order to bring about this present result, to preserve many people alive. 21″So therefore, do not be afraid; I will provide for you and your little ones.” So he comforted them and spoke kindly to them.” As Joseph grew old and was about to die he brought his sons into him and told them tht God would bring His people (the Jews) out of Egypt in the years to come. He made them promise that when God did this they would carry his bones out of Egypt into the land of Canaan and bury him there. We are told in Hebrews 11:22 that it was “by faith” Joseph asked his children to do this.
In 2 Corinthians 5:7 we are told that we as Christians are to “walk by faith and not by sight”. To walk by faith means we are to let the Bible be our daily guide for “faith comes from hearing and hearing from the word of God” (Romans 10:17) In 1 John 1:5-10 we read, “This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 7but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 9If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us.” Walking in the light is the same as walking by faith because walking in the light means we are letting God’s word direct our lives.
