“Then it came about after these things, the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt offended their lord, the king of Egypt. 2Pharaoh was furious with his two officials, the chief cupbearer and the chief baker. 3So he put them in confinement in the house of the captain of the bodyguard, in the jail, the same place where Joseph was imprisoned. 4The captain of the bodyguard put Joseph in charge of them, and he took care of them; and they were in confinement for some time. 5Then the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt, who were confined in jail, both had a dream the same night, each man with his own dream and each dream with its own interpretation. 6When Joseph came to them in the morning and observed them, behold, they were dejected. 7He asked Pharaoh’s officials who were with him in confinement in his master’s house, “Why are your faces so sad today?” 8Then they said to him, “We have had a dream and there is no one to interpret it.” Then Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell it to me, please.” Joseph interpreted their dreams and they came true just as Joseph had said The Butler was restore to his position before the king and promised to mention Joseph to the king. But after two whole years he still had mentioned Joseph to the king and Joseph remained in prison. But again, we read, “and the Lord was with him”. God continued to bless Joseph but He did not deliver him out of prison. He was molding Joseph for a great work He had in mind for him.
It’s difficult when someone makes a promise to you and then does not keep it. It might be your very best friend or your spouse or one of your children. There are many things in life that are discouraging because of unfair treatment. The one thing we can count on is God and His promises which He will always keep. God has promised to forgive us of our sins if we will meet His terms of forgiveness. He has promised to be with us always. He has promised to provide for us if we will put Him first in our lives. There are so many “great and precious” promises God has made to us found in the Bible. I would like to encourage you read His word every day and come to know the God of creation and Savior of the world through His Son Jesus Christ.
