The Supreme God

“Then the LORD said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning and stand before Pharaoh and say to him, `Thus says the LORD, the God of the Hebrews, “Let My people go, that they may serve Me. 14″For this time I will send all My plagues on you and your servants and your people, so that you may know that there is no one like Me in all the earth. 15″For if by now I had put forth My hand and struck you and your people with pestilence, you would then have been cut off from the earth. 16″But, indeed, for this reason I have allowed you to remain, in order to show you My power and in order to proclaim My name through all the earth.” (Genesis 9:13-16)
Many think the reason for the plagues God brought upon the Egyptians was to convince the Pharaoh to let His people go. That was one thing God was accomplishing through the series of plagues He brought upon the land. However, from this reading we learn that God had a grander purpose in mind. He wanted all the peoples of the world to hear about what He did inEgypt and know that He was the true God of heaven and earth, supreme in every way. Unlike the false gods of the Egyptians and all other heathen nations, He was a God that could actually control nature, do His will in whatever way He chose and was sovereign ruler of creation. He also wanted the heathen nations to know He was the God of the Israelites and He would bless them and be with them in their travels and daily lives.
How wonderful it would be if all people of the earth would recognize the God of the Bible as the one true God. I know there are many world religions that worship a different god than the one we read about in the Bible, but many of those religions did not come into existence until the last 1500 years or so. What about before that time?
Jesus said, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” (John 17:3) Why should we listen to Jesus? Because He was declared the Son of God with power by His resurrection from the dead. “who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord” (Romans 1:4) Many have tried to discredit the resurrection of Jesus but it cannot be done. Some of the people who called for the crucifixion of Jesus before Pontius Pilate were present when Peter preached the resurrection of Jesus on Pentecost following the ascension of Jesus. (See Acts 2:22-41.) They could have gone to the tomb Jesus was buried in and showed Him to still be in the grave except He was not in the grave for He had risen. All this proves the one fact all need to recognize and believe. The God of the Bible is the one true God and eternal life is found only in Him and His Son Jesus Christ.
